$

It’s always during these months when an update for RN Heals usually arrives starting from September down to October. It’s just this year in which rumors start to spread first, even faster than the real updates.

Rumors for RN Heals 2014

RN Heals 2014

from nurses in Nurse Germz Fb Page

  1. No more RN Heals?
  2. Half of the current batch of RN Heals 4 in the hospital will be upgraded to regular staff nurses
  3. Salary for RN Heals will be increased to PHP16,000

We all hear such rumors everywhere and it’s nationwide because nurses from different Regions keep asking the same rumors but in their own different story. Whatever it is, there are no updates yet to confirm such. The real update is below…

Updates for RN Heals 2014

RN HEALS 2014 is now changed to NURSES TO THE BARRIOS. There will be no more hospital rounds but will be purely community service. This is open to all RNHeals any batch. Basing from the updates from my place, Region 10, Rn Heals 2014 or Nurses to the Barrios is now accepting for its next batch of applicants. Written exams start at the end of the month, November. Passing is 75%. Applicants must submit hardcopy of PDS and other documents as attachment to letter of application. For nurses who pass, an interview will then be scheduled starting December. Updates for your own Region might be available soon. You can as well update me at Nurse Germz fb page to spread it to everyone.

For exam candidates, the 70-450: PRO: Designing, Optimizing and Maintaining a Database Administrative Solution Using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 certification exam counts as a credit towards the Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Database Administrator 2008 certification. In order to take the exam, candidates should have professional level knowledge of the SQL Server 2008. The most successful candidates will have at least three years of experience working as a database administrator. The 70-450 certification exam will test concepts related to designing, deploying, optimizing, maintaining, and supporting databases. For this reason, the successful candidate should be knowledgeable about design and technology considerations for the SQL Server 2008.

The ability to design a database is the primary skill that will be tested during the 70-450 exam. Successful candidates will be able to design a backup and recovery solution, as this counts for 20% of their exam. Exam participants will also be responsible for designing a SQL Server instance and database solution, a database server security solution, a database solution for high availability.

nurse deployment projectRegion 3 RN Heals 4 welcomes Nurse Deployment Project through a culmination program last December 5-6 at Hotel Statsenberg, Clarkfield.

For this year 2014, about 913 nurses are to be selected for employment and deployment under Nurse Deployment Program. This is in support of the country’s attainment of Universal Health Care while complementing the increasing needs for competent health workers while delivering quality health services to the public.

Nurse Deployment Program is the repackaged program of the health department as replacement for RN Heals Program. Finally, a certificate of employment is to be handed out to nurses after 2 years completion of nurse deployment project.

The recruitment and selection process started last November 4 until the first week of December receinving a pool of more than 3,000 nurse deployment project applicants who underwent a series of paper review, written examination and interview facilitated by the HRDU.

Right after, series of orientations will take place in preparation for the deployment this coming January 2014, as per guidelines, the chosen applicants will be assigned to: RHU, BHS, level 1 government hospitals in their assigned municipalities under conditional cash priority areas.

7 Questions Nurses Must Answer Before 2014

$

happy new year nursesAs another year comes to a close, and a new year begins, it is the perfect time to evaluate ourselves as nurses before 2014 starts. So, before you even start closing your nurses’ chart, walk into the ward for 12mn medication or just by starting a wishful thought of less patients during new year’s eve, take time to answer the following 7 questions before 2014 starts.

  1. Are you convinced of being a nurse now?

We are all nurses now so stop asking whether being a nurse is what you really wanted or not. For the 4 years you’ve undergone in College, there should gotta be a growing percentage of either liking or loving the profession. So ask instead, if are you convinced already that you are a nurse now? Proceed questions no. 2 & 3.

  2. Do you have plans of working as a nurse?

Before the new year starts, you should already be partially decided now if you really want to work as a nurse or not to avoid wasting another year of “what ifs” and “should haves”. Proceed question no. 4.

  3. Are you enjoying your current job?

If your current job is not a Nurse but you just can’t seem to find any meaning behind it, try answering question no. 2 again.

  4. You wanted to be a nurse badly but just can’t find a job?

The dilemma of every Filipino Nurse out there. One more question to add, proceed no. 5.

  5. What is your motive behind working as a nurse?

This is the very core question to answer before 2014 starts. Whether you are already working as a nurse, everything will just be put to waste if you do not have a goal for your career as a nurse. To be a nurse for 5 years (in the Philippines) would be plain useless when some are only aiming or dreaming for a 2 year experience because they have a goal to set foot in other places to work as a nurse.

Set a goal. Do you want to specialize on something? Proceed on taking up a graduate course? Or just finish the required years to work as a nurse abroad?

Remember that goals guide and inspire you in every way. It strengthens you despite of how hard the day can be but when you are aware that you are almost closer to your goal, a bad day can just be a typical day. Proceed next question.

  6. How can I work as a Nurse with the stiff competition in the country?

The answer depends on your goal. Look for alternatives. If you can’t find a paid nurse job then why not look for somewhere that accepts volunteer but just makes sure you’ll receive a certificate for it.

Can’t support a volunteer work? Look again for alternatives. Try an online job. This is actually my bread and butter – working as a full time online worker while simultaneously working as a once a week volunteer nurse. In fact, I’ll be enrolling for IELTS review this coming new year. And all these are supported by my online work.

Because I have a goal, I already have a bulleted list on what to do for 2014 for my nurse career.

  7. Is there still hope of being a nurse in the Philippines?

Be positive always. A negative vibe can get you nowhere.

RN Heals for example. We all have a negative feeling for it because of the certificate of deployment we’ll receive at the end of the contract. But did you know that because of the fact that it is funded by the government, the certificate can actually be used as experience (learned it from an agency for Quebec Immigration)? Then, here goes your “should haves” thoughts and “if only” statements.

See, negative vibe can get you nowhere. So for the newly repackaged RN Heals, Nurse Deployment Program 2014, have a change of heart despite of the areas to be assigned. You have no excuse now since the certificates are already for employment but after the 2 year contract.

The year-end or a beginning of a new year is the time when more people just get too excited, motivated and can’t wait for resolutions to change and improve thus it is as well the right time to review your career as a nurse. Answer the questions above, think about how you can improve the current status of your nursing career to start planning and implementing the changes.

I tell you! You are bound to see improvements in the near future. Have a blast New Year, Nurses!

NLE Result December 2013 To Be Released On January 2014

NLE ResultGood News NLE December takers as NLE Result December 2013 may be released sooner than the expected 30 working days which also includes the Top 10, top performing school and performance of schools.

While many guess NLE Result December 2013 will be out during the dates of January 15 – 22, 2014, Carl balita, a reliable source for every NLE Result, have already made confirmations in Facebook through a series of riddles. The first one was,

“I may not want to say when exactly but you may ask HER to sing a soundtrack of your waiting. But wait! She may need to sing her song within the whole WEEK.”

Followed up by another,

“Some time around and between the beginnings of the Solar calendar and the Lunar calendar, the DREAM and the DREAMER will be ONE.”

So what’s your answer to the riddle, future nurses? I’m guessing NLE Result December 2013 will already be this coming weekend?

3 Reasons For Nurses to Buy 3M Littmann Classic II S.E. Stethoscope

It’s usually the doctors that are seen carrying their stethoscopes around their neck or inside their pocket, handy enough whenever the need arises. However, nurses as well need one. After all, it’s (us) the nurses who are always at the patient’s bedside.
But remember, a great nurse always comes handy with a great stethoscope to save the day. So which is the greatest of them all?

I recommend 3M Littmann Classic II S.E. Stethoscope, Black Tube, 28 inch, 2201.

Littmann has already been known to be one of the most popular stethoscope among medical related students especially nursing students including the nurses, of course. Since its release, Classic II has always remained at the top among other models in the market.

A Test of Time

Why not? By just the name itself, classic would only mean it can stand a test of time. Like a family heirloom being passed from one generation to generation. One coming from a family of nurses still has hers since 1986. While one, now a dad is still using his 3M Littmann Classic II S.E. Stethoscope for already over 15 years.

3M Littmann Classic II S.E. Stethoscope

No Discomfort

Weight problems are the main disadvantages of a stethoscope but 3M Littmann Classic II just weighs right thus causes no discomfort when you carry it around your neck for long hours or just keep inside your pocket.

Boost Confidence

It’s always a pain for nursing students everytime they can’t clearly auscultate lung sounds. But with 3M Littmann Classic II S.E. Stethoscope, you can achieve it in a very clear confident manner. You can hear almost everything from lung sounds to the faintest BP even with the ambulance on the road.

But what I mean with a boost in confidence is the most interesting part of this stethoscope. Unlike the typical ones in which you still need to turn over its chest piece when changing either diaphragm or bell, you only need to apply a little pressure over the chest piece. No hassle especially in an emergency situation.

Side Stitch: The Side Cramps Experienced During Jog

$

side stitchFor first time joggers including myself, we always experience this familiar ache or cramps particularly at the right side part of our abdomen. As much as we want to concentrate and remain focus during the whole duration of it, the side cramps just prevent us from accomplishing that. The longer we jog the more pain we experience. But what is it really about?

What is Side Stitches?

The side cramps are due to the muscle spasms of the diaphragm. It is commonly known as the side stitch. Let’s take a closer look.

The Diaphragm

If you’ll imagine how a diaphragm looks, it is a dome shaped muscle that divides the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity. Therefore, it acts as a boundary between your heart and lungs within the chest cavity and the organs within the abdomen cavity.

side stitch

Have you imagined it right? Now, moving on.

Obviously, it is the diaphragm that assists us in breathing. The diaphragm moves down during inhalation as we take air into the lungs while it moves up during exhalation. This is in our normal steady state like doing nothing or just reading a book.

side stitch

But what about jogging? Just imagine how stressful it is for the diaphragm to maintain its work while we run or jog around a particular area. The internal organs would be also like bouncing up and down, pulling down and straining the diaphragm as it tries to move up once again during exhalation.

What Causes Side Stitches?

The Liver

The liver, on the other hand, is the main cause of the side stitches. It is attached to the diaphragm by only two ligaments and being the largest organ in the abdominal cavity, is the very reason behind the pulling down and straining of the diaphragm as it tries to move up once again during exhalation.
Now we get to understand why we mostly experience side stitches on our right side immediately below the ribs.

The Stomach

A stomach full of food may also be a cause as it adds up to the total weight pulling down and straining the diaphragm as it tries to move up once again during exhalation.

Footed

Most runners are “footed”. This means, they begin and end a respiratory cycle on the same foot either in a stride to breathing ratio of 4:1 while jogging and 2:1 while running fast. This becomes synchronized with the stride thus exhalation ends up on the same leg.

And what happens during exhalation? The diaphragm moves up.

Let’s say that same leg is your right foot. So if one repeatedly exhales as you hit your right foot on the ground, (the internal organs on the right side of the body moves down by gravity pulling down and straining the diaphragm as it tries to move up once again as you exhale) a side stitch develops.

Remember, your liver is situated at the right part.

How to get rid of this? There are actually 4 Ways to Get Rid of the Side Cramps during Jog

A Local TV Host Labelling #lazynurses for not performing sponge bath

On Facebook, Saturday, a local TV Host from a regular morning show labelled nurses as lazy after being ignored during their hospital stay and claimed that it is not their responsibility to perform sponge bath.

We kept getting passed back and forth. Pagka wai Batasan gyud. Kami pa gyud ang ipa sponge bath to bring the fever down. #thumbsup #lazynurses

It then turned into a long thread with similar comments:

#PRC wake up! Look at these lazy and unuseful people in the hospital!

All the good nurses left the Philippines na! I don’t know why the country is encouraging people to leave the country and kita mismo have to suffer with crappy so called professionals leftovers here. Ang mga doctor pud nga maayo kai nag nurse na para maka adto sa gawas! WTF!

#lazynurses

#lazynurses

In my opinion

Indeed, a few nurses may somehow fit in the particular category but they are of only a minority (not mentioning her situation in which she may have only confronted 2 or 3 nurses) and therefore, making quick generalizations is never the solution.

Unfortunately, it is also difficult to get a person understand what a nurse goes through in the run of 8-12 hours shift especially when she can’t even justify and perform a sponge bath. As from the situation, she ended up ranting.

Who Should Be Blamed?

Nurses have been suffering a nursing shortage (not pertaining to the number of nurses in the country but rather the number of nurses employed in a particular hospital) for many years and as humans, getting burnt out is just part of the natural process.

Also, in response to the crappy so called professionals leftovers and encouraging people to leave the country, why shouldn’t we, when we are exactly aware of our skills and abilities as nurses to be just neglected and forever remain as unemployed.

One last reminder, we are professionals and not PAs to feed your personal gratifications. We have this so called, “delegation of tasks” to significant others or watchers who are able to perform it, which is the best way to promote independence and continuity of care. If it happens that you are an incapable watcher then, we’re willing enough to demonstrate it again for you step by step. It’s all about asking.

What do you think about #lazynurses?

Here’s the original status.

Public Statement of Nicole Abas on #lazynurses

CAGAYAN DE ORO, Philippines – Pamahaw Espesyal TV Host, Nicole Abas, finally made a statement in TV Patrol Northern Mindanao, Thursday, September 25, to nurses who were devastated by her rant and hashtag, #lazynurses.

#lazynurses

Nicole clearly expressed her high respect for both nurses and doctors. She briefly added, “I also partially owe them ang akong ikaduhang kinabuhi” –second life during her battle against Lupus.

In response to her “Labelling #lazynurses for not performing sponge bath”

Ang gikasubo lng jd ko pagsugod lng dayon nako ug tepid bath sa bata, gibyaan man lang dayon ko sa nurse ni-instructions man lang o ni-assistance, wala ko nakadawat.”

She explained that the time she started performing tepid bath, the nurse suddenly left without further instructions nor assistance.

This is not a war against the nurses as narrated by Star Patrol Northern Mindanao.

Naghinaot usab ako na pinaagi niini, mahipata ang tanan aron makab-ot ang pantay-pantay na maayong serbisyong medical diha sa mga hospital para sa tanan,” Nicole clarified.

Her main aim was that for all health needs to be met with equal and proper provision of medical services and not against the nurses.

Learn the lesson the easy way and think twice before posting on social networks.

Our social profiles are just a mouse click away from not only our family and friends, but also our rants and tirade. Let this be a lesson that celebrities are neither an exemption from such social media blunders nor being immune to an ire of social media backlash.

Therefore, consider professionalism should be considered before venting one’s latest frustration to the rest of the world.

So #lazynurses #backtoroutine #MoveOnNaTa
