RN Heals 4 Deployment Starts This Month of January 2013The 22,500 nurses who have successfully undergone RN Heals 4 selection and recruitment process will be deployed after orientation in this month of January in various part of the country.

According to Department of Health (DOH) secretary, Enrique Ona, “This Project aims to improve access of the country’s poor to quality healthcare with social services by creating a pool of registered nurses with enhanced clinical and preventive health management competencies that will eventually increase the nurses’ employability.”

He clearly clarified that the project, RN Heals is not a form of employment rather a medium for learning and development in government health facilities where potential for future employment is highest. Therefore, RN Heals Batches cannot be called as regular employees but pre-service trainees with allowances or stipend and not salaries.

RN Heals 4 starts this January for the orientation followed by deployment to:
70 DOH Hospitals; 1,491 municipalities; 143 cities; 13 districts of Metro Manila following priority areas of DOH’s:
Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP)
conditional cash transfer areas (CCT) areas of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the
609 priority areas of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC)

An P8,000 monthly allowance or stipend coming from the national government for nurses assigned whether in hospital or health center. Additional monetary or non-monetary incentives are encouraged such as: advanced training opportunities, meals or meal allowance, transportation or transportation allowance, communication allowance, modest board and lodging whenever necessary.

RN Heals 4 also becomes part of Philhealth iGroup Insurance with a premium of P1,200.00 per person per year and GSIS Group Accident Insurance premium of P 500.00 per person per year covering the following: Accidental Death/Dismemberment of P500,000.00 per person; Medical Reimbursement of P50,000.00 per person; and Bereavement Assistance of P10,000.00. After the satisfactory completion of their learning and deployment, the nurses are given a Certificate of Completion.

The same from the previous batches, fund sources have been sub-allotted to the DOH Centers for Health Development and Hospitals to facilitate processing and payment of their monthly allowance. For ARMM, funds have been transferred to the DOH-ARMM for efficiency.

For the record, RN heals Project has completed three (3) batches from 14 February 2011 to December 2012. RN Heals 1 in February 2011 was composed of 9,518 nurses deployed in health facilities in 1,235 municipalities and cities while 11, 283 nurses from RN Heals 2 (October 2011) sent to 70 DOH hospitals 1,500 municipalities and cities; and RN Heals 3 nurses (10,000) deployed to 1,491 municipalities and 143 cities in March 2012.

Nurses Celebrates International Women’s Day

More than half of the nurses’ population is women so today is our best time to tap ourselves and celebrate International Women’s Day. This is the day the whole world celebrates the personal and professional achievements of women. Since early 1900’s, the celebration have been observed until now to remember the time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies. But on top of that is of course, our very own achievements as nurses.

Below is a copy of Women’s Creed from yesterday’s event, March 8, 2013; 8th Bukidnon Women’s Summit held at the City of Malaybalay in celebration of its yearly Kaamulan along with International Women’s Day.

Women’s Creed

Deployment of Filipino Nurses To Germany Finalized

Deployment of Filipino Nurses To Germany Finalized

The deployment of Filipino Nurses to Germany was the major discussion made during a meeting of Ambassador Maria Cleofe Natividad with the officials of the Federal Employment Agency, International Placement Services (ZAV) last March 8 held at Bonn. Monika Varnhagen, director for the ZAV, and Annette Tigges-Thies, head of Division for Labour Migration and Work Permits were the ones who received the Ambassador.

The formalization of the arrangement for the deployment, then together with the signing would then be witnessed by German Minister for Labor and Social Affairs Ursula von der Leyen during her upcoming visit to the .

Germany’s plan has the so called, “triple win formula,” through agencies like the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft fϋr Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH) and CIM (Centrum fϋr Internationale Migration und Entwicklung) are held responsible for the successful integration of the nurses into the German labor market and in their social environment. This includes the assurance of adequate linguistic and professional preparation, free of charge for Filipino Nurses prior to entry to Germany.

The visit of high-ranking officials is a mark of Germany’s commitment for the agreement’s successful implementation. This deployment of Filipino Nurses to Germany is to address their country’s current shortages on hospitals.

In return, Ambassador Natividad shows readiness of Philippines to sign the agreement through POEA which is responsible for the implementation. She added, “It is all systems go for the Triple Win Project. When the agreement is signed, then we have a cooperation framework that enables Filipino nurses to work in Germany.”

As emphasized, the agreement serves as protection for Filipino workers’ rights. “Under the agreement, Filipino workers may not be employed under working conditions less favorable than those comparable for German workers,” Ambassador Natividad stated.

Philippines and Germany have already reached 60 years of diplomatic relations. Deployment of Filipino Nurses to Germany is just part of it, particularly the enhanced labor cooperation recently discussed by Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario and German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle during the latter’s official visit to Manila in February this year.

Prince Philip remarks Filipino nurses living in “half-empty” Country

Prince Philip, Filipino nurses, joke, half-empty

Have you guessed it right, nurses?

It was Prince Philip who made the statement, “The Philippines must be half empty – you’re all here running the NHS” regarding Filipino Nurses and the Philippines during his visit at Luton and Dunstable Hospital where he unveiled a £5.5m cardiac centre. It was because a lot of Filipino nurses can be observed working within the hospital.

The Filipino nurse on the other hand, accepted it in good humour even the hospital itself treated the visit as “hugely motivational.”

Why?

…Because at an age of 91 years, this is just another and the latest among his long line of politically incorrect statements over the years.

Below are just one of his many statements:

  1. [to a police officer]He made a remark of getting hime arrested if he unzipped the dress of a young, blonde council staffer who greeted him during a royal visit.
  2. [to a Scottish driving instructor]“How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them through the test?”
  3. [to an indigenous leader, William Brin]“Do you still throw spears at each other?”
  4. [to British students during his visit to China]“If you stay here much longer, you’ll all be slitty-eyed”.
  5. [to an islander in Cayman Islands]“Aren’t most of you descended from pirates?”

Boston Bombing, an Adapation of G.I. Joe Retaliation

News has once again released another update of the very truth of Boston Bombing series. But the words, “stage,” “frame” seem to be always in the picture showing every possible details that the Tsarnaev brothers are just a front act.

From the different sides of stories that were already foretold since the bombing happened, which one should we really side?

Or should we admit that every bit of it brings an air of familiarity?
“stage” “fake” “frame”… The words are getting too “media”, “showbizy”, dramatic, which may lead those to the just recently shown in theatres-movie, G.I. Joe Retaliation.

From the movie, America is the world’s most badass country and it was within the government that jeopardized the very existence of the G.I. Joe, a handful of dudes and lady dudes who’ll save the world.

In real life? As what everyone tries to believe, Boston bombing was faked and within the securities / just another branch of the government, the fake ones lie.

Who are the G.I. Joe? It can be the people who wish nothing but a peaceful world thereby trying to save it? I don’t really know.

What do you think?

5 Stages You Undergo Before Finally Saying “I am a Registered Nurse”

$
0
0

Admit it. We all want to wear our almost forgotten-white-uniform-stuck-in-the-cabinet-for-years. We have worked hard for it for four years anyway plus a year for the board exam. So, let us just be truthful. No matter how we become bitter to nurse life because we can’t get any real job. For sure, deep inside us, there always remains something we term as “longing”.

5 stages, registered nurse, nurse, nurse job, job, nurse challenge

Take note that “longing” is not just the typical urge to have a job, or a reward for the long years we have taken in nursing college life. It actually has a long list. In fact, it can be explained in 5 stages.

Reward / Planning Stage: long to finally become one – a Registered Nurse

Right after we saw our names included in the NLE Result, I tell you, a “nurse job” is not the first thing that comes in our mind. It would always be, “celebration” “beers” “vacation” “gifts” and lots of “rewards”. But in between, that’s the time when the planning for a nursing job comes.

You will have all the time for laughs, stories, fun and enjoyment but out from nowhere, you’ll be surprisingly in serious mode and ask each and everybody as when, what plans you’ll take and how of becoming a real Registered nurse.

Dilemma Stage: having second thoughts of becoming a Nurse

After the whole month of tipsiness and soberness, you face now the dilemma as to becoming a Registered Nurse. The longing here to become one is actually at its peak, however, there is fear within you that to the number of nurses out there, the nurse jobs might not accommodate everybody and so is to you. So, you come to a dilemma stage, whether to become a Nurse as of the moment or not yet.

I bet the common answer for that would be “to find any job at a particular” “to save” as of the moment. Am I right?

Compensation / Defense Mechanism Stage: “at least I have a job than being an unemployed nurse”

No questions asked, you are happy with your job, you can now buy all you want and you are even earning more than a typical nurse in the country would earn. However, how come by the time you scroll the Facebook newsfeed, you felt sadness every time you see your batch mates wearing their white uniform and really fulfilling their dreams of becoming a nurse?

I gotcha. This is the compensation / Defense Mechanism Stage that no matter how big the smile you are wearing, behind it is a flat affect / a-still-determined poker face to soon become a nurse. There aren’t just nurse jobs yet available but soon if there’ll be, you’ll never let that pass. For the meantime, you settle for what is at present.

Out of the Blue Decision Stage: long to finally become one or back again as a Nurse

Either you just lost your job at a particular, can’t find meaning anymore to your current job or you just felt some longing within. Whatever that is, you are now at the out of the blue decision stage. You now do some real actions to motivate yourself and push to really become one.

However, you do not necessarily end up as a Nurse at this stage.

Final Decision Stage: “I long to be a Registered Nurse”

The previous stage was out of the blue, this time it is already the final decision. Meaning, you don’t anymore care for the jobs being offered to you. You are now fully determined to really become one.

This time, you’ll be successful in becoming one already and finally saying, “I am a Registered Nurse.”

So, what stage are you now, nurses?

Ongoing Assessment: Activity Intolerance

Activity IntoleranceWhat you need to assess for activity intolerance is/are below:

Activities/Interventions Rationale
Determine the patient’s perception of causes of fatigue or activity intolerance These may be temporary or permanent, physical or psychological. Assessment guides treatment.
Assess the patient’s level of mobility This aids in defining what the patient is capable of which is necessary before setting realistic goals.
Assess nutritional status Adequate energy reserves are required for activity.
Assess potential for physical injury which activity, including safety of the immediate environment Injury may be related to falls or overexertion. Obstacles such as throw rugs, children’s toys, and pets can (further) impede one’s ability to ambulate safely.
Assess the need for ambulation aids: bracing, cane, walker, equipment modification for activities of daily living (ADLs) Some aids may require more energy expenditure for patients who have reduced upper arm strength (e.g. walking with crutches). Adequate assessment of energy requirements is indicated.
Assess the patient’s cardiopulmonary status and stability for exercise before activity using the following measures
  • Heart rate

  • Orthostatic BP changes

  • Need for oxygen with increased activity

  • How the Valsalva  maneuver affects heart rate

Heart rate should not increase more than 20 to 30 bpm above resting with routine activities. This number will change depending on the intensiy of exercise the patient is attempting (e.g., climbing one flight of stairs vs walking on a flat surface)
Older patients are more susceptible to drops in blowing pressure with position changes
Portable pulse oximetry can be used to assess for oxygen desaturation. Supplemental oxygen may help companies for the increased oxygen demands.
Vasalva Maneuver, which requires breath holding and bearing down, can cause bradycardia and related reduced cardiac output
Monitor the Patient’s sleep pattern and amount of sleep achieved over the past few days Difficulties sleeping need to be addressed before activity progression can be achieved
Observe and Document response to activity. Report any changes Close monitoring serves as a guide for optimal progression of activity
Assess emotional response to change in physical status Depression resulting from the inability to perform required activities can further aggravate activity intolerance

A Multi-Tasking Cherry Mobile Fusion Bolt for Nurses

cherry mobile fusion boltAdmit it nurses; we all did suffer the challenge of bringing stacked huge nursing books while making our way towards the classroom at the top floor. How life can really be unfair when tablets, smart phones and techy gadgets just arrived and became popular these days; when we can shift to ebooks, nursing applications instead of hard bound books with endless pages. There might be a couple of rich classmates already bringing one but the price those times were still very high.

What’s amazing today is the fact that even tablets with next generation features and specification can already be available in the market at a very low and affordable price. You might already be thinking of what brand I’m referring to. And yes, it’s none other than Cherry Mobile.

Currently, Cherry Mobile Fusion Bolt is their most formidable tablet to date. It is operating in Android 4.1 Jellybean interface powered by a 1 GHz quad-core processor. In other words, this perfectly describes us—packed with intense multi-tasking capabilities that allow us to play any of our favourite Android games while simultaneously surfing the internet or finishing up some files.

For student nurses, this is something you can rely during grand case presentations. When dying out in the middle of it can never be a problem because it comes with a battery amped up to 4000mah. Also, this 7-inch Cherry Mobile Fusion Bolt comes with 1280×800 resolution, therefore having a pixel density of 213 ppi (pixel per inch). Did I already mention that it is in super hd screen? This only means that everyday will be a glorious viewing experience.

Talking about navigation, its touch screen is indeed very responsive having almost no problem when playing high quality 3D games like Temple Run 2. Include as well its internal storage of 8GB expandable up to 32 GB.

Unfortunately, Fusion Bolt has no Bluetooth but its mini HDMI port, USB port and USB (on-the-go) feature is already enough to share almost any of your files stored in the tablet. It comes with dual camera of 2.0 megapixel at the back while VGA quality in front.

Other Cherry Mobile Fusion Bolt Specifications:
• 1GHZ quad-core ATM7025 processor
• Vivante GC1000+ GPU
• Android OS ver4.1.1 Jelly Bean
• 7-inches HD IPS Display (1280 x 800 pixel)
• 2.0-megapixel main camera and VGA front camera
• 1GB RAM
• 8GB internal storage, microSD up to 32GB
• Wi-Fi
• microUSB v2.0
• mini-HDMI port
• 3.5mm audio jack
• Super HD 2160p video support
• 4000mAh Li-Ion battery
• Price: Php3,999
